Weekly car boot sales
Now running on Saturday every week from 11am to 2pm.  See details here.  Why not just come along to find a bargain and enjoy a cup of great coffee in our café!

The Cherry Tree Café
Now being run by Heart of Scotstoun staff and volunteers!  Currently the café is open 10am to 4pm Mondays to Fridays, and 10am to 3pm Saturdays (last food orders 15 minutes before closing).

Our pre-5 adult and toddler sessions have been very popular and to suit more people these now run for an extra half hour: 10am to 12.30pm on Wednesdays & Fridays and 12 to 2.30pm on Mondays.  See details here.

Pàrant is Pàisde Gaelic toddler group
Heart of Scotstoun is delighted to welcome this long established group to the Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1pm to 3pm.  More information about these sessions is here.

Youth Group ages 8-11
New Tuesday sessions from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, attendance is free.

Youth Group Girls age 12+
New girls-only Friday evening Beauty Therapy session from 5pm to 7pm.

Patchwork classes
Ever been interested in knowing more about quilting?  Then come along and learn the skills at our beginners’ patchwork course running Thursdays 3pm to 5pm.  Numbers are limited but there are a few places left.  See details here.

Samba drumming group
Classes will be re-starting on the 21st September and this new group is looking for more members – for details contact Centre reception or check our Facebook page next week.

The West End Festival and Glasgow Life are delivering a programme of free music and arts workshops beginning this Saturday 27th April in different areas of the city.  Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre has been fortunate to be selected as one of the venues for these. 

There will be opportunities at the Centre to learn Samba drumming and make carnival costumes for parades in June 2013.  This will be at workshops for people of varied ages that will create music and costumes, and then the chance to perform with costumes at a community event.  People attending will also be able to take part in the country’s largest carnival parade, Scotland’s Mardi Gras, on 9 June (the West End Festival Parade) on Byres Road.

So every Saturday till June, there will be free workshops running at the Centre, available to adults and children aged 11 and upwards.

Just come along on Saturday to either or both sessions and get involved!

With the arrival of spring all the work done by our garden volunteers over the winter months is showing great results:  daffodils, cherry trees kindly donated by friends of the Centre, and much more to come.  So our gardening group would be happy to welcome anybody who would like to get involved, with skills from tending plants, heavier garden tasks and joinery / woodworking all currently needed.  Our Hearty Scotstoun Seniors Lunch Club on Friday would also be delighted to hear from volunteers willing to join its helpers’ rota.

We’re very pleased this month to announce the opening of our new Cherry Tree Café,which serves homemade food, cakes and fresh Italian coffee 6 days a week from 8.30am till 8pm weekdays and 2pm on Saturdays.  Why not pop in for an Easter cupcake, or a bite to eat!  Open on Good Friday and Easter Saturday.  The Café and Centre will be closed on Easter Sunday and Monday.

Better Late than Dead on Time A Baldy Bane Theatre performance – see details hereFriday 12th April at 7pm, doors open 6.30.  Book at the Centre: £1 for adults, 50p for children 14 and under, including tea, coffee & juice.

Where are Your Roots? A talk on genealogy and tracing your roots with a guest speaker from the National Records of Scotland – see details here.  Tuesday 16th April at 7.30pm.  Tickets £2 including refreshments are available from the Centre.

Victoria Park Heritage Walk Our walking group which meets twice weekly are leading a special walk charting the history of the park, including the Fossil Grove and the Curling clubhouse.  Full details are in the walkers’ newsletter here which also contains a walk schedule for the next 3 months.

Metafit  Mondays & Fridays 10 to 10.45am, Tuesdays 6 to 6.45pm ‘The 30 minute fat burn class’.

Internet café  2 to 4pm Tuesdays, 6 to 8pm Wednesdays from 9th April.  In April  these will be free drop-in sessions, and someone will be on hand to help if you have any difficulties.

Hands of Scotstoun  Now knitting and crafting every Wednesday from 1 to 3pm – just come along and join this friendly informal group.

Warm up your weekend with a trip to Heart of Scotstoun this Saturday afternoon – lots of great stalls and activities for everybody to enjoy.  All the money raised will be going to Heart of Scotstoun and other charities so you can have fun and do some good at the same time!


We now have weekly DLMAC law & money advice sessions, adults’ karate, boxercise, yogalates and a boys-only youth club night.

Anybody interested in kids’ karate on Tuesdays 5-6pm, or an age 8-11 youth club please send us your contact details or leave these at Centre reception and we’ll be in touch if there’s enough interest to get these activities started too.

We’re also on the lookout for gardening volunteers to help with our Centre landscaping project and ever-growing garden – do get in touch if you would like to join in.  Find out more about our garden project here.

The Centre is closed today Monday 4 June apart from the A&M dance class 6 to 8pm.  On Tuesday 5 June, Café Momentum will be open from 8.30am to 4pm, but we are otherwise closed until the Scotstoun Broadsword Club from 7 to 9pm.

We’re currently advertising two part-time Centre Assistant jobs thanks to our new ‘Survive and Thrive’ Big Lottery funding– see the details here.  The closing date is Friday 8 June.

Our latest ‘What’s On’ can be found here – no need to book for anything, just come along at the start time.   Also in addition here’s advance notice of two new FREE Silver Deal Active coach-led activities for those aged 60+ being run every week at the Centre by Glasgow Life, starting the last week in April.   

Active Arts Class – a class offering you the opportunity to take part in various art projects such as Glass Painting, Candle Making, Jewellery Making, Card Making, Canvas Painting plus lots more.  Starts Tuesday 24 April: 12-1pm

Easy Exercise Class – a class helping to improve mobility, co-ordination, strength, balance & self-confidence.  The music used throughout the class also allows you to have a sing along and have some fun whilst exercising at the same time.  Starts Thursday 26 April: 10-11am.

We need your input to help us plan for the future of the Centre.   You can fill in our online survey for adults here, or one for children aged 15 and under here It will only take a few minutes to complete and we would really appreciate your feedback.

As an incentive there will be a prize draw with five £10 vouchers for Café Momentum, and also free tea, coffee or a soft drink for the first 150 completed surveys returned.  Paper versions of the survey are available in the Centre if you prefer.

Don’t forget our latest Big Green Sunday tomorrow – it’s free! Just come along to the Centre anytime from 1 to 4pm – there will be something for folk of all ages to enjoy and everybody is welcome.  See details here.  Activities include:

Our new café has just opened during the day and from Tuesday 10 April will be up and running weekdays from 8.30am until last orders at 7.30pm.  We’ll be sending out more details soon, but do come along the Centre and try it out – in the last few days it’s been great to see folk outside at tables enjoying the Scotstoun sunshine!
