We’ve just been awarded £73,600 by the Climate Challenge Fund to help create ‘A Greener Scotstoun’ !   The project will start with fruit trees being planted in April/May, then we’ll be growing food, composting, learning about healthy eating and much more, in our new Back Green community garden which is being built this year.

Starting this month too, we’ll be launching Activities @ Heart, a two-year volunteer-led programme funded by a People’s Health Trust award of £48,500.

Our grateful thanks to both these new funders for helping us increase the services that we can offer.

Do help us develop and introduce the new activities these grants will fund, by completing our quick online survey here.

Help Heart of Scotstoun & other charities’ campaign to change Glasgow City Council’s unfair grants process, which stops us from applying for funding to help run the Centre!

See the newspaper article from The National here, and sign our petition here.

And there’s lots to see and do at Heart of Scotstoun for the next 4 Saturdays!

And our Cherry Tree Café is open till 3pm serving great coffee and food, just the place to relax after your Christmas shopping!

Help us get Big Lottery funding to build a fantastic outdoor extension to our community centre – the plans are based on suggestions from our survey of local people and HoS users in 2012.

Just come into the Centre and complete a questionnaire, and you could win a free meal voucher for the Cherry Tree Café too!

Full details are in our latest newsletter here, which also contains the full café menu.

Heart of Scotstoun has just become a permanent collection point for donations to Scotstoun-based Glasgow North West Foodbank, which issued an urgent appeal after a surge in demand for food over the past few weeks.  Find out more about the foodbank, including what kind of items it is looking for here.

67kg of essential food items have been donated via the Centre this week already which is a fantastic response – thank you to those who have helped so far. If you would like to help the charity by making a donation of food, you can bring this in any time the Centre is open, 6 days a week Monday to Saturday (but note we are closed Monday 29 September until 6pm).

The Centre and Cherry Tree Café will be open during what promises to be a sunny and busy holiday Saturday, with our weekly car boot sale running from 11am to 2pm among other activities. Why not come along and find yourself a bargain, or call in for some great coffee and a snack!   Or take advantage of our September / October offer – collect a special discount flyer from 10am at Centre reception and get your pitch/space half price! There are also still a few places at our free samba drumming class for adults. Come along before it starts at 12 noon if you’re interested.
